WATER DEPARTMENT

The City of De Queen Water Department has undergone a major renovation program within the last three years. The beautiful Cossatot River is the source of the city’s drinking water. The Cossatot ranks among the best streams in the nation in terms of water quality. De Queen residents enjoy abundant clean, safe water at very reasonable rates. The system has the capacity to produce 4.5 million gallons of water per day.

The Water Department completed construction of a new 24-inch raw water pipeline in 2014. Since then the water department has upgraded water filters, linked all water facilities with a SCADA control system, installed new water pumps and upgraded controls to variable frequency drives. A new automated meter reading system was installed in 2016 giving staff the ability to read meters from a vehicle equipped with a drive-by receiver.

Darren Higgins is the water department manager. He supervises the water treatment plant and a five-person water distribution crew.

To contact the water department, call De Queen City Hall at 870-584-3445. Technicians can be radio dispatched for service calls. For after-hours water concerns, call 870-584-7891.
